Curiosity
Bara "Croft"
When I was little, I was fascinated by computers. My best friend and I could spend hours playing the PC games our dads introduced us to.
One of my favourites was Tomb Raider. I loved Lara Croft so much that my friends started calling me Lara. She inspired me to be braver and clever enough to take on any mysterious adventure that came my way.
At school, we worked on different projects and made my first PowerPoint presentations. I researched beyond the obvious and took part in a literature competition, which helped me become more confident in presenting.
Those little projects were some of my first creative experiences, combining research, storytelling, visual design, and technology.
Finding My Way
When curiosity became something more
Choosing a high school felt like choosing my future. I wanted a direction that could shape who I would become.
I chose a technical high school focused on multimedia. The first year was challenging with advanced maths and electricity, but I’m glad I didn’t give up.
In my second year, we started web development. While sick at home, I found my dad’s old HTML book and wrote my first Hello World from bed. Finding my mistake gave me my first spark of confidence.
With the support of a great teacher, I discovered how much I enjoyed web development. What once felt uncertain became my future path.
Support
Shaped by guidance and discipline
My family has played a significant role in shaping who I am today. My father has always been technically minded, while my mother is deeply creative.
I may not have my mother’s talent with a paintbrush, but through learning, working, and gathering experience, I can see how much I have grown.
That is why I love developing websites. I can look back at my previous projects, see my progress, and keep challenging myself to improve. For me, that becomes its own motivation when you have the right drive in your heart.
I’m grateful for my parents because hard work is important, but sometimes having someone believe in you is the little push we need to keep going.
Transition
Into the Unknown
After graduating high school, I moved to Bratislava and started my journey as a junior web developer. Eventually, I found a role where I stayed beyond the trial period and continued developing my experience.
When I spontaneously decided to move to Australia, it may not have seemed like an understandable decision to others, but somehow it made sense to me. When I was a primary school student, we did a Geography project about Australia, and the most memorable part for me was learning its old name, Terra Australis Incognita. I was drawn to its mysterious connection, and I loved the name so much that it always stayed with me. Moving there felt like another adventure waiting to be explored.
What started as a short-term plan became a long-term opportunity when unexpected circumstances changed my plans.
Today
The journey continues
Looking back, I can see how every step of my journey has shaped the designer I am today. From a curious kid who loved computers and adventures to someone who found her place in web development and design, I’ve always enjoyed learning, creating, and becoming a better version of myself.
I’ve learned that growth doesn’t happen all at once. It takes time and comes from trying, learning from mistakes, and never giving up.
I’m curious, always learning, and constantly challenging myself to become better at what I do. I want to keep creating meaningful digital experiences while continuing to grow both as a designer and as a person.
And just like every adventure before, I’m ready to see what comes next.
